An initiative by

Smart City Wien

Towards A Sustainable Development Of The City

With its 1.7 million inhabitants the Austrian capital Vienna is one of the best examples of urban quality of life in the world. Smart City Vienna is a project consortium under the direction of the Vienna city administration.

The goal

Smart City Vienna formulates Vienna’s energy future as a long-term Smart Energy Vision 2050, Roadmap 2020 and Action Plan 2012-2015.

The way

It is a big starting advantage for Smart City Vienna that the energy efficiency and climate protection goals are formulated with a close connection with the urban development plan. A key point here will also be the integration of users when implementing new technologies.

The area of focus: stakeholder process

Smart City Vienna needs the acceptance of the stakeholders. Relevant participants affected directly by climate protection agendas are invited to join a stakeholder group so they can then participate in the Smart City forums. A steering group - project management, representatives of the stakeholder group and technical experts - will head the stakeholder process.

Thomas Madreiter (Project Manager, Municipal Department 18 - Urban Development and Planning)

“Vienna meets all the requirements as a smart city to have a leading role in climate-related research and technological development in Europe. With the FIT for SET programme we will launch the necessary measures in order to make the most of our advantages.”
